Copyright & image licensing

The paintings are
made to be seen.

They are not, however, free to copy. This page explains how artwork and images from The Watercolour Atlas may be used.

Copyright ownership

Unless clearly stated otherwise, the original watercolours, photographs, written material and digital images displayed on this website are protected by copyright and owned by John Crosland. © John Crosland. All rights reserved.

Personal enjoyment

You are welcome to browse the collection and share links to pages on this website. Purchasing a print gives you ownership of that physical print, but it does not transfer copyright or reproduction rights in the artwork.

Permission is required

Images may not be downloaded, copied, reproduced, altered, printed, sold, published, uploaded to another website, used in advertising, used to train an artificial-intelligence system, or otherwise exploited without prior written permission.

Editorial, commercial and trade use

Licensing may be available for editorial features, books, magazines, hospitality projects, commercial interiors and selected brand collaborations. Permission is considered individually and may involve a licence fee, agreed credit and limits on where, how and for how long the image is used.

Request a licence

Email sales@thewatercolouratlas.com with the artwork title or web-page link, the proposed use, publication or organisation name, territories, formats and intended duration. No use is authorised until written permission has been provided.

Required credit

Where permission is granted, the credit should normally read “Artwork © John Crosland · The Watercolour Atlas”, unless a different form is agreed in writing.
